Bernstein Glass

Bernstein Glass

I am drawn to glass by the sheer joy of glass working, the sensuous softness of hot glass, its speed, grace, and rich historical association with the vessel.
My work expresses an intense personal vision guided by a profound love of visual motion.

My sculptural work is not solely conceived as the creation of a glass object. I prefer to let my sculpture become an extention of my work in drawing the figure. Since my works are cast, I am often working the original in wet clay. Once the original is complete, my interest becomes one of transformation. The plastic and intimate clay is frozen into seemingly liquid glass and the dense clay is changed into the perfect vehicle for pure light. Anticipating the refraction and the peculiar reverse perspectives of glass sculpture is complex and often surprising.
